Re: Best AM/light DH tire for our conditions

Re: Best AM/light DH tire for our conditions
I'm not a fan of maxxis...nevegals maganda kaso sobrang kapit , minsan di mo kailangan ang sobra kasi namamatay ang momentum mo.
I like the michelins and intense kaso di praktical ang presyo . Yung DH 24 or 32 tread pattern ng mich hanep! May mga light tires sila na pde
pang-ahon kaso mabilis talaga maubos. Yung syncros tires are good also , they are made by kenda too.

Re: Best AM/light DH tire for our conditions
I've used most of the tires you've tried... Recently, I've been into:
Schwalbe Big Betty 2.4 for the front. Stiffer sidewalls than the Kendas and rolls quite a bit faster (but not light at around 900 grams).
Kenda Nevegal 2.35 DTC in the rear. Less wear and rolls faster than the Stick-E versions and quite light at sub 700 grams.

Re: Best AM/light DH tire for our conditions
My personal favorite combination is a Nevegal 2.1 on the back and a Minion DHF 2.35 on the front. I ride a wide variety of surfaces and gradients, wet and dry, and this just seems to work. I've tried bigger, and I feel like the penalty in terms of weight and resistance is not worth the (minimal) gain.
If you're loading tires like the Minion or the bigger Nevegals onto rims like the DT 4.2 or the Mavic 717, that should be a bit of a mismatch alert: either you have too much tire or too little rim.

markweir wrote:@evs: ok ba yung small block 8 for rear? kala ko pang xc lang. di ba nag slide out on moist loam (tagaytay) and moist clay (maarat)? of course useless in mud, but i hate mud. if so, fast rolling lightweight tire yun!
1. if u want fast rolling rear tire.. eto yon..
2. yep it will slide out s moist loam but nothing to worry.. kasama s design yon.. masanay lng u.. actually makapit sya..
3. yez light weight.. for me i go for tubeless kasi iba yong compound..
fyi, ang traction wala s likod its all in the front..

Re: Best AM/light DH tire for our conditions
thanks everyone. will give the minion dhf and high roller a try. otherwise was thinking of spesh eskar and captain, but put off by lack of transition knobs on eskar and thin sidewalls on captain. Nice and light for tubeless tho, w low rr.
@islaw, thanks for the heads up, puntahan ko yung bike shop sa pag-asa, could you tell mehow to get there from mindanao avenue? sorry di ko kabisado yung lugar...

Re: Best AM/light DH tire for our conditions
@ mark: from trinoma take mindanao ave. towards congressional ave. (between mcdo and veterans golf course) barangay pag asa is on the left side of mindanao ave. u-turn ka after the proj.6 entry. land mark mo is BPI mindanao ave. cor. pag asa. it's diagonally across BPI pag nasa pag asa ka na. pagkatapos ng talyer ng benz at bmw.
dalawang bike shop yun na magkatabi, yung first shop ang nagtitinda nung minions and high rollers. nasa lower right portion nung glass panel ng shop pag pasok mo. medyo magulo kasi yung shop e, puro entry level parts kaya mahirap makita yung tires.
pero well versed naman yung mechanic kaya alam nya yung tire brand and model.
sana naintindihan mo pag explain ko ng directions. enjoy the tires! yan gamit ko nun sa FS ko e. great tires!

Re: Best AM/light DH tire for our conditions
when i still have my FS i use WTB weirwolf, front and rear. for me it grips a lot especially in ruts and uneven trail and roots in trail but mud also stick to it like hell. ang hirap tanggalin. i have 2.1 and 2.3 (folding and non folding)
haven't tried many tires but i also like the nevegals 2.3.

Re: Best AM/light DH tire for our conditions

Re: Best AM/light DH tire for our conditions
The shop referred to by Isaw (thanks again!) is selling minions, downhill version (wire bead, 2 ply, 2.5). hi roller is AM version, 2.35 folding, kaya lang UST version, so medyo mabigat at 890g. Sticker price is 3000 on the minions and 2000 for the hi rollers.
My objective in changing tires was to find something that rolled faster and climbed better than my 2.35 nevegals, but that would provide comparable performance downhill.
The Minion/Hi Roller combo seemed to fit the bill, but there is too much of a weight penalty for the models available at the bike shop - 1300g and 890g respectively! They certainly would climb worse than the nevs, even if they rolled better.
Now thinking of keeping the nevegal on the front, and swapping the more worn out rear with a small block 8, though concerned about sidewall durability (I run a ghetto tubeless setup - tubeless with regular rims and tires).

may 2 klaseng minion, front @ rear, ano yong nakita mong gulong na ang size eh 2.5 2ply? overpriced kahit n 3C p yon..
kung ang hanap mo fast rolling tire, i suggest get the hiroller 2.35 single ply wired, available s endless 850petot.. lagay mo s harap.. then yong gamit mong lumang gulong eh lagay mo s likod until wornout.. next option mo n yong small block 8 pagnapudpod padyak yang lumang gulong mo..
