biketown now has a retrotec frame in their shop (multi speed though) and cruiser bars made by sycip. hindi ko alam bakit ko pinost 'to kasi hindi naman ss-specific mga yun. hahaha!

Re: Single Speed

Re: Single Speed
aaron, i've been using a rigid fork ever since i started ss'ing.. been to very rocky trails (usually near river crossings). raced it too. buhay pa rin naman ako, pero aminin ko minsan masakit na sa katawan lalo na sa likod. use wider front tires para maka-compensate ng konti. i use 2.3's..
nag-stretch na yung chain mo. ganun talaga.. you could try a half link at baka maka-tsamba ka in your current tensioner-less set-up. michelle (MrsM) used to have a tensioner-less ss bike too, but the chain stretched out after a while. she's now using a tensioner.
you could also try to mix and match old and new chains + half-links.. let's wait for jaymz so that he could share where he got the half-links.

vwbeetle, ayus! try a 16, hindi naman siya ganun ka-kunat.. or try 1 tooth down (up?): 17.. sabi nga ni king, 17 is the new 18.. aquifer is using a 17. he could give more inputs.
how much did you get the bar? never got to ask elaine at nagmamadali na ako.. if the retrotec was a single, mapapaisip ako

I might sell mine, if I can find it!
Will post in the classifieds if I do.
FYI, it's the first Mary bar here in the Philippines
Not like that will command a price premium! haha!

Re: Single Speed
I think there use to be Mary's in sabak. but that was a while back.
if they dont have it your only hope is second hand or to buy it abroad.
SUP is the proud owner of my pair. i dont know if he will part with it, even at gunpoint.

Re: Single Speed
hahaha! It's mine! Mine! Mine!!!!!!
A "slightly serious" On One Mary bar review:
It's a good bar with a nice sweep to it. Thing is, it's hard to mount lights if you're into night riding. I have 4 hand positions using this bar: nomal grip at the ends, gripping over the brake levers, gripping the arch and gripping the inner portion of the bar. I use all those positions when riding for a couple of hours.
Then there's the issue of understeering/over shooting fast and tight turns. I did not have this problem when I used these bars for most of 2008 (more than 6mos). When you switch bars/bikes, you will experience this. Agu reminded me that you need to lean on the bar/bike to get the desired turn. Problem fixed. You just have to get used to it.
Anyway, a bar is a bar. There's nothing special about it. It's now having creaking sounds when I pedal standing up. I plan to use it until it breaks, but then I'm contemplating on using a riser or a wide flat bar since I'm now running a suspension fork. Then there's also the Ritchey bar Jaymz is lusting over. I'm sticking to Mary for the time being

Re: Single Speed
creaking could be from the interface with the stem.
suggest you take it apart, check for wear and LIGHTLY grease.

Re: Single Speed
Happy mary bar user here too. Currently using it on my Karate Monkey SS. Definitely comfortable when it comes to the need to change hand positions.
I find that tilting the bar slightly upwards yields better standing leverage, while tilting it down is more comfortable for seated long distance spinning. But your experiences may vary.
Sup, maybe you better check that creaking. Thats might be a sign of a potentially dangerous failure. Grabe kasi ang power output mo e!
